From Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June, the Year 10 Silver Duke of Edinburgh (group B) practice canoe expedition took place. Pupils canoed 51km from Swindon to Oxford along the Thames canals and main waterways. Throughout the expedition, we got to grips with canoeing, managed locks, navigating on water and cooking food for mass numbers on mini portable cookers. The weekend proved to be great fun and excellent exercise. Much team bonding took place and there was an added bonus of being around such beautiful scenery. On the second day at camp, we were lucky enough to go swimming on the side of the main channel - however, it was freezing and resulted in being a not-so pleasant experience! We are looking forward to our qualifying expedition on the 5th of July.
