Rugby 17th-30th November

Updated: Dec 12, 2018

Report

The U15A rugby team have made really encouraging progress of late, both in terms of performance and results. A competitive first half against City of London Freeman’s two weeks ago showed that the team can compete when it plays with structure and discipline. Although we were overwhelmed by a well-drilled Freeman’s side in the second half, there were positives that came out of the game and small signs that we could start to improve our season.

Thursday 15th November was our much anticipated first round of the National Schools Bowl tournament against Harris City Academy, Crystal Palace. Harris had three or four very dangerous runners in their team; something we realised in the first five minutes when they took the lead with a length of the pitch try. We showed huge amounts of character and desire to take control of the match from here on in, eventually winning 29-7 and notching our first win of the season in our eighth match.

A best of the season performance against Mill Hill followed, where we narrowly lost 10-19, but gave everything. In the second round of the Bowl competition, we made a four and a half hour round trip to North London and recorded a 13-7 win over Enfield Grammar.

Two days later we were back on the road to White City to deliver a commanding performance against Latymer Upper, winning 29-0. This was a very satisfying performance, with the whole team pulling together to play some very attractive rugby.

Spirits in the camp are good as we look forward to another busy week with away fixtures against Wetherby and Shiplake.
