Mark Miodownik’s (OE1987) newly-published book, Liquid – The Delightful and Dangerous Substances That Flow Through Our Lives, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize 2018.
Structured around a plane journey which sees encounters with substances from water and glue to coffee and wine, the book gives a fascinating insight into the sinister and surprising aspects of liquids.
Since 1988, the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize has celebrated outstanding popular science writing and authors. Over the decades, the prize has celebrated some notable winners including Bill Bryson, Stephen Hawking and most recently Cordelia Fine. Each year, the Royal Society’s panel of expert judges choose the book that they believe makes popular science writing compelling and accessible to the public.
The winner will be announced at the award ceremony on Monday 1 October and will be presented by Professor Brian Cox.
