Lyons came out top in this year’s junior house chess event, defeating Drake 4-2 in the final round of fixtures.
This competition is played as a mini-league with all houses playing each other over three successive weeks, with six players in each team. This year the final round of matches was a ‘winners take all’ fixture with the top two houses competing for first and second. Once Drake eased into a 4-0 lead, Lyons were fighting for pride and fought back to end it 4-2. In the other match, Wellington defeated Clyde 3-2. This is always a hotly contested house event which involved a lot of pupils, and is enjoyed by all.
The final positions are as follows:
1st Lyons 6 pts (+14)
2nd Drake 4 pts (+11)
3rd Wellington 2 pts (+6)
4th Clyde 0 pts (+4)
Also on the chess front: our bi-annual Blitz Chess event will soon begin. This consists of short ten minute matches played over a successive number of morning breaks (9.55am-10.15am). This is a league format event with cash prizes and all standards are welcome. The matches are as follows:

Round 2: Thursday 6th December
Round 3: Friday 7th December
Round 4: Monday 10th December
