To celebrate European Day of Languages, the catering department served up a French lunch today. Richard and the chefs created a delicious array of French dishes including La Soupe au Pistou, a traditional vegetable soup of Provence. This was followed by Poulet Basquaise which was a tasty tender chicken casserole with tomatoes and peppers from the Pays Basque region in south west France. There was also a Cassoulet from the Languedoc and Tarte Tatin au Tomatoes et Oignons Confit as a vegetarian option. For dessert Richard had made some wonderful fresh cream chocolate éclairs which were very popular indeed.
To set off the food, we decorated the refectory and buttery with a selection of French and European flags which really looked splendid.
For our next theme day we are off to the Caribbean on Wednesday 10th October, a last taste of summer before the dark nights come in.
