December the 12th is the 30th anniversary of the Clapham Rail Disaster, in which 35 passengers lost their lives and another 484 suffered injuries.
The London Fire Brigade are co-ordinating this year’s memorial. They plan to hold a brief service at 11.00am at the memorial itself on Spencer Park, followed by a service in St. Mark’s Church on Battersea Rise. Some of the choir will be singing at the church service and anyone from the Emanuel School Community is very welcome to attend. Should you require further information contact email@example.com or keep an eye on the local media nearer the time.
The featured photo was given to the school by the Metropolitan Police for its support to the emergency services, the pupils who helped and for the use of the school building as a temporary hospital. Two trains collided carrying 1300 passengers shortly after 8.00am when one train crashed into the back of another due to a faulty red light. This was right outside the front of the school, very close to where the Memorial Bridge now stands.
