On Thursday 6th November, 208 pupils from years 9 to 13 sat the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge.
There were impressive results from all year groups and the Mathematics department would like to thank pupils for participating and mention a few standout performances:
Siddiq (lower sixth) achieved the best score in the school and he has qualified for the British Mathematical Olympiad.
Across the sixth form, Thomas, Izzy, Luke and Joe all achieved gold certificates and qualified for the Senior Kangaroo.
The Senior Maths Challenge targets pupils in years 12 and 13; however, select pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 also sat the paper. The department was thrilled to see such promising results from all of the pupils, and in particular, Anna (year 11), who achieved a gold certificate and qualified for the Senior Kangaroo along with Luke (year 11), Indigo (year 10) and Lucy (year 9) who all received silver certificates.
Earlier in the term, Anna, Esme, Nancy and Izzy took part in the Mathematical Olympiad for girls. The paper lasts two and a half hours and consists of five challenging mathematical problems, for which full written solutions are required. All pupils produced thoughtful, robust and systematic solutions, and the Mathematics department want to thank the pupils for participating. Izzy performed particularly well and received a distinction.
