Continued growth and achievement
Congratulations to our upper sixth of 2018, who have achieved some excellent results. They are the first to experience the fully reformed and more demanding A level examinations, so we are delighted that 93.5% of grades earned were A*-C, which is our best ever outcome.
This triumphantly goes against the national trend of fewer students earning grades of C and above this year, and illustrates a successful team effort in adding value to our students’ academic performances.
As a school we achieved an average positive value added of 2.6 UCAS points per candidate. As with last year’s results, this continues to maintain the school’s high ranking ‘value-added’ position in south-west London.
Our final-year pupils have also achieved our highest ever UCAS points scores, meaning that the majority have been able to achieve places at their chosen universities, or prestigious courses in the creative arts.
The year group is also the first to complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in large numbers. The wide-ranging and largely pupil-driven project was introduced by Emanuel in 2016 as a cornerstone of our new A level curriculum. Working on this qualification has enabled our sixth formers to build a range of skills in critical thinking, academic research and evaluation, data analysis, and independent learning, and this has had an observable and beneficial impact on all of their learning and development in many other areas.
We are delighted that in its first year, over half our entrants achieved A*/A, with 83.1% gaining A*-B. They have enjoyed the freedom and stimulation of this opportunity to develop their interests and explore their passions outside the confines of A level syllabi and it has undoubtedly added another scholarly and research-orientated dimension to sixth form life at Emanuel.
The headmaster said, "We are immensely proud of these young men and women and all that they have achieved with us. We have supported them in pursuing their aspirations, whether academic, sporting or creative, as we know this is vital in developing the confidence and resilience they will need to succeed in all aspects of life. We are delighted that they are now so well-placed to achieve highly in their chosen fields and career paths. We wish them the very best in all of their future endeavours."
